Second Man Arrested in 2007 Murder | News
A second man was arrested on Monday in connection with the 2007 murder of a 75-year-old man.
The Asheboro Police Department announced they have arrested Derek Bryan Bumgarner in connection with the August 2007 murder of 75-year-old Elbert Lawrence Sikes.
Sikes was reported missing in August of 2007. The next day, his body was discovered in a wooded area near his home.
Bumgarner was charged with first degree murder and is currently being held in the Randolph County Jail without bond.
Jonathan Heath Simmons is also charged in Sikes' murder and is awaiting trial.
He is being held in the Randolph County Jail under $150,000 bond.
